Extract the net price and VAT amount from a 5% VAT-inclusive total without using the wrong subtraction method.
The correct calculation
Net = gross / 1.05. VAT = gross – net. For AED 525 gross, net is AED 500 and VAT is AED 25. Subtracting 5% of gross would incorrectly produce AED 26.25.
Rounding
Work with enough precision, then round monetary results to the required number of decimals. When reversing totals across many line items, small differences can appear if the original system rounded each line separately. Reconcile to the source invoice.
Use only after classification
Extraction assumes the gross price includes VAT at the selected rate. It does not prove that VAT should have been charged.
